Vaishno Devi Yatra Suspended Due To Weather Warning; Pilgrimage To Resume On Oct 8

Jammu, Oct 3 (PTI) The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board on Friday night announced the suspension of pilgrimage to the cave shrine atop Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district from October 5-7 due to an inclement weather advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). More than 1.70 lakh pilgrims paid obeisance at the Vaishno Devi temple during Navratri, with the Yatra going on smoothly, officials said. “In view of an inclement weather advisory issued by the India Meteorological Department, the Vaishno Devi Yatra shall remain suspended from October 5 to 7,” the Shrine Board said in a post on X. The Yatra will resume on October 8, it said, adding that devotees may stay updated through official channels. The Shrine Board has taken the step as a precautionary measure in view of the threat perception of landslides, flooding, and cloudbursts due to heavy rain. Zomato and HDFC Pension have collaborated to introduce 'NPS Platform Workers Model' for delivery partners of the food delivery platform, in a bid to provide them access to formal retirement benefits. The model was formally launched by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman at an event organised by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA) on October 1. "More than 30,000 delivery partners onboarded on Zomato have already generated their PRANs (Permanent Retirement Account Numbers) within 72 hours of this integration and the platform is committed to enable over 1 lakh delivery partners with their NPS retirement accounts within 2025," Zomato said in a statement. Zomato operates on a gig-first model, supporting an average of 5,09,000 independent monthly active delivery partners as of Q1 FY26. According to a NITI Aayog report, the number of platform workers in India is estimated to grow to 23.5 million by FY 2029-30. Currently, there exists a gap in terms of awareness as well as access to formal retirement benefits for these workers. Due to this reason, the retirement savings rate among this specific section of the workforce is negligible. The collaboration will enable independent gig workers onboarded on Zomato as delivery partners, to enjoy benefits such as long-term financial security in the form of a lump sum and a monthly pension at retirement, along with flexibilities such as making small, regular contributions. In addition, with a long-term view, the model also provides delivery partners the option of portability, allowing them to carry their benefits forward as they progress in their careers. Digital integration has been done to make the onboarding process smooth and hassle-free by using the existing KYC or eKYC of the gig workers, with their consent, at the PRAN (Permanent Retirement Account Numbers) generation level, Zomato stated. These factors may not "improve until FY27, in our view, as global headwinds provide a cushion to pricing pressure," the report added, providing a 'buy' rating on many IT stocks. Growth in the second quarter is expected to stay in line with the first quarter, driven largely by vendor consolidation and cost-rationalisation deals, which HSBC called a “zero-sum game.” "Sustainable growth rate for the sector is unlikely to be more than 4-5 per cent, though over the past three years growth has been below even this trend rate. While FY24 and FY25 were impacted by loss of share to GCCs, FY26 has been impacted by both AI deflation and an uncertain macro environment," the research firm said. Even though recent US corporate results are quite solid corporates are still holding back discretionary new initiatives, the report noted. Quarterly expectations indicate that large-cap IT firms are expected to achieve 0–2 per cent sequential growth in dollar terms. Mid-tier companies may experience a decline of 1 per cent to growth of 5.5 per cent, the firm forecasted. The firm, however, maintained that large-cap IT stocks are no longer five-year buy-and-hold compounding stocks and instead require active management around their cycles/volatility. 2025 Mahindra Thar Facelift 3-Door India Review: More Practical Now?

The Thar 3-door remains one of the most talked about cars and also one that divides opinion. However, the current gen Thar was a massive change for the brand name since it brought in a completely different meaning with being a lifestyle offering. Now, after the Thar Roxx, the Thar 3-door has again gotten an update which was needed. The earlier 3-door did have some impractical elements which affected its everyday useability and that has now been added. Does it look different? The new Thar 3-door does get a mildly tweaked grille with body coloured detailing plus the lovely new grey shade from the Roxx. Else, it remains practically the same and that's probably how its owners or potential owners will like it. The styling is butch, aggressive and maintains its classic design which in 3-door looks terrific. It's even better looking than the Roxx. What about the interior? That's where the changes lie. Getting in is easier thanks to a grab handle while on the inside, it is much better now thanks to several updates. The power window switches are now placed where they should have been in the first place- on the side door pad and there is a remote fuel lid opener. There is a rear wash/wiper, a dead pedal for the automatic and a new movable armrest which makes it much easier for long drives. The other big change is the new 10.25-inch touchscreen which is all new and gets a slick display along with a large rear camera display too. The display isn't as nice as on the Roxx but it is a welcome feature and is pretty clear. Other than that, the new look steering wheel is taken from the Roxx as well. Space is pretty much the same and the rear seat is better than what it looks like. Storage is pretty good too. How is it to drive? The engines continue and again nothing needed to be changed anyways. The diesel is the pick with its torque and the decent efficiency while it remains a powerful, fun car to drive. There is also a punchy turbo petrol which offers huge performance for the money. The 3-door Thar remains fun to drive and off-road it is incredible. That said, on-road it remains bouncy and the steering is a bit on the heavy side- we expected the electric steering from the Roxx to be offered here but the earlier steering remains while arguably this is better for off-road. Off-road it continues to be fun and is very capable as we tried it over an off-road track. Is it worth a buy? The Thar 3-door remains a desirable car and much more usable now thanks to the new updates including the bigger screen. It looks superb, goes fast and is hugely fun while off-road it remains a very good option. You can now drive it everyday without any issue save for the bumpy ride while it continues to offer a blend of looks/off-road/performance which no other car can give at this price which incidentally has been kept competitive since it starts under Rs 10 lakh. What we like- looks, new updates, more practical, better quality and off-road performance What we do not like- bumpy ride quality and heavy steering remains.
