Gold Silver Rate Today: Gold and silver prices moved higher on Tuesday, with the yellow metal gaining sharply in domestic futures trade as traders built fresh positions amid firm spot demand. Precious metals also drew support from positive global cues, even as surging crude oil prices and renewed US-Iran tensions kept investors alert to inflation and interest rate risks. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), gold futures for August delivery jumped Rs 1,303, or 0.93 per cent, to Rs 1,41,612 per 10 grams. Trading turnover for the contract stood at 1,095 lots. Analysts attributed the rise in gold prices to fresh positions created by market participants on the back of stronger spot demand. International gold prices also traded in positive territory. Gold futures in New York climbed 0.70 per cent to $4,030.57 per ounce. The gains in bullion came against the backdrop of a sharp rise in global crude oil prices. Oil climbed around 3 per cent on Tuesday to reach its highest level in four weeks after the United States reinstated its naval blockade of Iran and fresh military exchanges near the Strait of Hormuz raised concerns over global energy supplies. Brent crude surged as much as 2.82 per cent, or $2.35, to trade above $85 per barrel. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude gained nearly 3 per cent, or $2.28, to $80.42 per barrel. In India, MCX crude oil futures soared 4.51 per cent, or Rs 332, to Rs 7,692, touching an intraday high as of 11:08 am. The latest surge followed a nearly 10 per cent jump in Brent crude during the previous session, its biggest single-day gain since May 2020. Escalating tensions between the US and Iran have renewed fears over the security of energy supplies from the Persian Gulf. While gold is widely considered a hedge against inflation, expectations of higher interest rates can restrict its upside. Elevated borrowing costs increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as bullion. A softer US dollar has also provided some support to precious metals. Weakness in the greenback makes dollar-denominated gold and silver relatively cheaper for buyers using other currencies, potentially improving international demand. Silver prices also moved higher, with spot silver gaining 0.8 per cent to $60.46 per ounce. However, the white metal remained on course for a weekly decline as investors continued to assess the impact of changing interest rate expectations. Geopolitical developments remain a crucial trigger for the bullion market. The US launched a third consecutive night of strikes on Iran following President Donald Trump's announcement of a multi-day wave of attacks and a renewed blockade on Iranian trade through the Strait of Hormuz. Trump also said countries benefiting from US protection of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz would be expected to compensate Washington for the operation. Meanwhile, reports said Iran intensified its military response by launching drones targeting US assets in Kuwait and firing cruise missiles at what it described as a hostile vessel. Tehran also said its agreement with Washington had entered a crisis phase and that it would no longer honour the deal as long as the US continued to violate its commitments. With crude oil prices climbing and geopolitical uncertainty remaining elevated, bullion markets are likely to stay sensitive to inflation signals, movements in the US dollar and expectations surrounding the future course of interest rates. 'We Strongly Condemn These Attacks': India On Hormuz Strike, Expresses Concern On West Asia Tensions

India on Tuesday strongly condemned the attacks on two commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, which left one Indian seafarer dead and 10 others injured. Why is Sulyok being ousted? According to Magyar, Sulyok did not fulfil his role by choosing to not interfere with Orban's antidemocratic steps, with removing Sulyok being one of Magyar's election campaign promises, bringing Magyar to argue that the majority his party received from the public in the election gives him the mandate to follow up on that promise. Orban's party has labeled the amendment an "unprecedented" assault on the country's democratic order. After it passed with 139 votes for and six against, Tisza's elected representatives who were in attendance applauded, while Orban's party, the far-right Fidesz, boycotted the vote. Orban himself did not attend the vote as he was traveling to the US to watch the World Cup. The amendment's official purpose was "restoring rule-of-law democracy." According to the Microsoft chief, enterprise AI changes that dynamic. Instead of sellers carrying the burden, businesses using AI are often required to reveal their own processes, expertise and institutional knowledge to achieve better results from AI systems. “You essentially pay for intelligence twice, once with money, and again with something even more valuable: the proprietary knowledge you must reveal to make that intelligence useful,” he writes. “The better you want the model to perform, the more of that knowledge you have to feed it.” Nadella argued that the more organisations rely on AI, the more internal know-how becomes embedded within those systems. Nadella suggested this accumulated expertise could eventually become more valuable than the original documents and data used to train the system. Selling pressure was visible across the broader market as well. The Nifty Midcap index declined around 0.37 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap index slipped 0.57 per cent. The Nifty Bank and Nifty Financial Services indices were down around 1.2 per cent during the morning session as heavyweight private banks came under selling pressure. Market breadth remained cautious, suggesting that the weakness was not restricted to a handful of index heavyweights. The Nifty Auto index was among the biggest sectoral laggards, falling around 1.6 per cent. Rising crude oil prices raised concerns over higher fuel expenses and crude linked input costs for automobile companies. Just Dial surged as much as 13 per cent after its Q1FY27 revenue rose 9.9 per cent to Rs 327.5 crore, while net profit increased 4.1 per cent to Rs 166.2 crore. The stock extended its post results rally for the second consecutive session. PDS jumped around 11 per cent after securing a sourcing contract from the global procurement arm of a French headquartered supermarket group. Biocon rose up to 6 per cent following a large block deal linked to Mylan’s proposed stake sale. HCLTech, meanwhile, declined nearly 3 per cent despite reporting a 20.3 per cent rise in Q1 net profit, as brokerages remained cautious about its unchanged growth outlook and premium valuation. In the previous session on July 13, foreign institutional investors sold Indian equities worth Rs 3,062.27 crore. Domestic institutional investors provided partial support by purchasing shares worth Rs 2,171.70 crore. Global cues also remained weak. Wall Street ended lower overnight, with the S&P 500 falling 0.8 per cent and the Nasdaq declining 1.6 per cent. Bank branches in parts of India will remain closed on multiple days between July 13 and July 19, 2026, owing to regional observances and the weekly Sunday holiday. According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, banks will observe four holidays during the week across different cities and regions. However, not every holiday will apply nationwide, with several closures linked to local festivals and observances. Bank Holidays Between July 13 And July 19 Customers of SBI, HDFC Bank and other public and private sector lenders should check whether a holiday applies to their city before planning branch-related work. Banks will remain closed in Bhubaneswar, Dehradun and Imphal on July 16 for Ratha Yatra/Kang (Rathajatra)/Harela. On July 17, bank branches in Shillong will be shut to mark the death anniversary of U Tirot Singh. Banks in Gangtok will remain closed on July 18 for Drukpa Tshe-zi. The following day, July 19, is a Sunday and banks across India will remain closed for the regular weekly holiday. Are Bank Holidays The Same Across India? No. The RBI's bank holiday calendar includes national, regional and religious observances, meaning the dates on which branches are closed can differ from one state or city to another. A regional festival, for instance, may result in bank closures in selected cities while branches elsewhere continue to operate normally. July 17: Banks closed in Shillong to observe the death anniversary of U Tirot Singh. July 18: Banks closed in Gangtok for Drukpa Tshe-zi. July 22: Banks closed in Agartala for Kharchi Puja. Saturdays And Sundays Add To July Bank Closures Apart from regional holidays, banks also observe mandatory closures on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, along with all Sundays, under RBI guidelines. July 2026 has four Sundays, July 5, 12, 19 and 26, when bank branches will remain closed nationwide. Banks also remained closed on July 11, the second Saturday of the month, and will be shut on July 25, the fourth Saturday. Customers who require in-branch assistance should factor these dates into their banking plans. Online Banking Services To Remain Available A closed bank branch does not necessarily mean banking transactions have to stop. Digital banking facilities generally remain accessible during bank holidays, allowing customers to carry out a range of financial transactions without visiting a physical branch. Customers can use UPI and their respective bank's mobile application to make payments or receive money. These services operate round the clock, although temporary disruptions may occur during scheduled maintenance. Banks typically inform customers about planned maintenance. What Banking Services Can Customers Access? Customers can also use digital banking channels for fund transfers and other available banking facilities during branch holidays. Fund transfer requests can be made through NEFT and RTGS facilities. Banking customers may also access services related to demand draft requests and chequebook forms. Card-related facilities covering credit, debit and ATM cards are also available through relevant banking channels. Other services, including account maintenance requests, setting up standing instructions and locker applications, can also be accessed through the facilities offered by individual banks. With multiple regional holidays falling between July 13 and July 19, customers planning branch visits should check the RBI calendar as well as the holiday applicability in their city before heading to the bank.
