What Is Mangal Dosh In Astrology? Know Its Effects, Remedies, And More

Mars (Mangal) in Vedic astrology is a powerful and aggressive planet. It is also called the 'Commander of the Planets'. Mars is considered to be the planet of courage, strength, energy, relationships, and bravery. The right placement of Mars in the birth chart makes the person fearless, adventurous, and capable of accomplishing great deeds.

However, when Mars is placed in a way that forms a Mangal dosh, it is believed to negatively impact a person's marital life. According to the astrological beliefs, Mangal dosh can create obstacles in marriage, cause disputes between spouses, and even lead to legal issues.

    What Is Mangal Dosha?

Mangal Dosha is an astrological condition that can adversely affect a person's married life. It takes place when Mars falls in the 1st, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th house of the birth chart. If either the bride or bridegroom is affected by Mangal Dosha, it may cause marital conflicts and violence and even cause separation or divorce.

The occurrence of Mars in these particular houses renders a person 'Manglik'. There are 12 houses in a horoscope chart, and the first house is regarded as the ascendant, from which the position of Mars is evaluated.

    Negative Impact Of Malefic Mars:

When Mars is positioned unfavourably in the horoscope, it creates a variety of problems:

    • Delays in marriage
    • Frequent arguments and lack of harmony in married life
    • Chances of separation or legal complications
    • Financial issues, loans, or even physical injuries

Remedies To Reduce The Effect Of Mangal Dosh:

Astrology offers several remedies to reduce the malefic effects of Mangal Dosh:

    • Place fennel (saunf) wrapped in red cloth under your pillow in the bedroom. This is believed to reduce the negative impact of Mars.
    • Use red stone in construction when building your house, as it helps pacify the dosha.
    • Donate red lentils (masoor dal) wrapped in a red cloth to a needy person or beggar on Tuesdays.
    • Feed jaggery and roasted chickpeas to monkeys, which is also believed to calm the ill effects of Mangal.
