Father's Day 2025 — Date, History, Significance, And All You Need To Know About This Day

Father’s Day is a special occasion dedicated to honouring and appreciating the vital role that fathers and paternal figures play in our lives. Celebrated in many parts of the world, this day offers a heartfelt reminder to express thanks and love toward fathers, grandfathers, and other fatherly figures who greatly contribute to the family and society.

Father’s Day is observed on the third Sunday of June every year, celebrated with expressions of love, respect, and affection. The day is all about making fathers feel appreciated and recognised, whether through presents, handwritten notes, or spending time together.

When Is Father’s Day in 2025?

In 2025, Father’s Day will be observed on June 15. The date tends to shift slightly year by year, as it falls on the third Sunday of June.

    History Of Father's Day:

The origins of Father's Day date back to 1910 in Spokane, Washington, when a woman named Sonora Smart Dodd originally conceived of honouring fathers. Convinced by a sermon she heard on Mother's Day in 1909, Dodd believed that fathers should be given equal honours. Her own father, a Civil War veteran, had raised Sonora and her siblings alone after their mother passed away, with the experience having a lasting impact on her.

Dodd's work eventually resulted in the first official Father's Day on June 19, 1910. But much later, a formal recognition of the day followed. While initially well-received, Father's Day took years to gain acceptance. In the year 1972, the holiday was officially recognised as a national holiday in the United States when then-President Richard Nixon signed it into law, entrenching its global impact.

    Significance Of The Day:

Father's Day is not only a celebration but also a time to remember the significant part that fathers and father figures have in moulding lives. Fathers teach fundamental values, self-discipline, and courage and are one of the earliest role models and trusted advisors a child will ever have. His way of doing things tends to shape a child's honesty and goals. By celebrating Father's Day, families thank, love, and appreciate all the behind-the-scenes work and sacrifices done by fathers.
