The Nutrition - Vision Link: Foods That Support Healthy Eyes

(By Dr. Sorabh Malik) Protecting our eyesight begins long before any symptoms appear. Ophthalmologist often remind patients that what you eat shows up in your eyes. Nutrition plays a crucial role in maintaining clear, healthy vision throughout life, yet is often overlooked. ALSO READ: Breaking Myths About Eye Care: What You Really Need To Know They would like to stress upon few details one should be mindful about: Macular Health And Antioxidant Power The macula, the central portion of the retina, enables fine detail and color vision. It is highly sensitive to oxidative damage caused by light and environmental stress. Nutrients such as lutein and zeaxanthin, found in spinach, kale, and corn, act as the eye’s natural defense, absorbing harmful blue light and protecting retinal cells. Regular intake of these antioxidants can significantly reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults. Vitamins: Small Nutrients, Big Impact Vitamin A is essential for forming rhodopsin, the pigment that helps our eyes adjust to dim light. Its deficiency can lead to night blindness and dry eyes. Including carrots, papaya, and sweet potatoes in your diet ensures adequate beta-carotene levels, a precursor of vitamin A. Vitamin C (from citrus fruits, amla, and guava) and vitamin E (from nuts and seeds) serve as antioxidants that delay cataract formation and support the overall health of ocular tissues. Omega-3s: For Clearer, Comfortable Eyes Essential fatty acids like omega-3s, found in walnuts, flaxseeds, and fish such as salmon, help stabilize the tear film and reduce dry eye symptoms. They also promote retinal health and may help protect against diabetic retinopathy by supporting blood vessel integrity. Zinc, Water, And Everyday Care Zinc, present in lentils, pumpkin seeds, and chickpeas, aids the retina by transporting vitamin A from the liver to the eyes. Equally important, staying well hydrated maintains adequate tear production and prevents surface irritation - a simple step with significant benefit. Indian Woman Caught Pleading With Police After Alleged Shoplifting At US Target Store: WATCH

A video of an Indian woman tearfully pleading with US police officers after being accused of shoplifting from a Target store has gone viral, drawing widespread attention and debate online. The clip, which has garnered millions of views, surfaced on social media recently, though details about where and when the incident occurred remain unclear. Woman Seen Begging Officers for Mercy In the video, the woman can be seen repeatedly apologising and insisting she had forgotten to pay for the items found with her. Folding her hands, she pleaded, “No sir, sorry. Please.” Despite being instructed several times to turn around, she continued crying and did not comply with the officers’ directions. Police Deny Call Request The officers informed her that she would be taken to the station and released after completing formalities, a process they said would take a few hours. The woman asked to call her husband, but the police reportedly denied the request. It remains unclear what items she allegedly took from the store. Mixed Reactions on Social Media The video has divided social media users. Some criticised her behaviour as “shameful” and claimed such incidents tarnish India’s reputation abroad. Others expressed sympathy but pointed out that “rules apply to everyone.” Another Indian woman was arrested after trying to slip out of a Target store with unpaid items. When caught, she repeated the classic plea ‘I’m sorry, please, just this once!’ mantra but the officers didn’t let it slide. Earlier this year, two similar clips - also involving Indian women accused of shoplifting at Target stores in the US - went viral in July and September. Both videos showed the women pleading with officers while in custody.

Environmental experts warn that long-term exposure to polluted air can trigger asthma, bronchitis, cardiovascular diseases, and even neurological damage. The viral image has now become a visual symbol of the city’s suffocating crisis, one that calls for urgent action from both authorities and citizens alike.

2025 New Hyundai Venue First Look Review: Feels A Segment Higher

However, now there is an all new Venue which comes with a fresh new look along with more equipment as well as a more plush cabin. Here is our first look review. How does it look? While still under 4m, the new Venue looks much bigger and wider with a clear focus on being closer to the Creta. However, this car has its own look while being much more aggressive. Compared to the older Venue, this one looks much better and looks like it belongs to a higher class. The lines are sharper with a light bar plus edgy DRLs. The wheel arches are boxy and there is a new grille, logo and a skid plate too. There are new alloys which are 16inch in size and a more emphasis on angular lines. The rear too looks much better with a full light bar plus the larger L shaped reflector. The road presence has gone up and it is 48mm taller plus 30mm wider too. The N Line meanwhile looks sportier with a new bumper design, bigger 17inch alloys and dual exhaust tips. Inside it is all new too The huge change is also seen on the inside with a new look cabin which means the older steering or the 8inch touchscreen is gone. Importantly quality has gone up and it feels more premium here which rivals even the Creta. There are new vents, new colour scheme and twin 12.3-inch screens including a new digital cluster plus a steering which has a new Morse code logo. There is a new gear selector, new buttons and the older knobs are replaced. Buttons feel nice to use and there is an electric parking brake too. There is also a built in app, voice commands in five languages and a blind view monitor. The equipment level is high but the panoramic sunroof isn't here but the rear seat is now slightly better in terms of space. Safety includes 6 airbags, ESC, all four disc brakes and more. More automatic options now The Venue in its new avatar continues with a 1.2l petrol with a manual but the turbo petrol is the pick with either a DCT automatic or a manual. The diesel comes with a manual but the 1.5l unit now comes with a torque converter automatic too. The 120bhp turbo unit also comes with the N-Line variant which is more sportier. Better value now with interiors being the plus point In this segment, the new Venue scores for its looks, interiors with a clear premium feel and offering many engine options too. Importantly the new Venue is now much more premium inside out while the carmaker claims the body shell is now strengthened too. It may lack some features like a panoramic sunroof or dual powered seats but it brings in all the strengths of the earlier model but at a higher level in terms of design plus interior. In terms of prices, the new Venue starts at Rs 7.9 lakh and comes in seven trim levels.

Washington Sundar's CSK Trade Blocked By GT Coach: Report

IPL 2026 trade deal rumors have been rampant on social media of late, and one of them involved Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar.  It was being reported that the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were apparently interested in acquiring Sundar from the Gujarat Titans (GT) after R Ashwin, a veteran with a very similar profile, announced retirement from IPL.  However, a recent report by Cricbuzz claims that Ashish Nehra, GT Head Coach, has refused to trade the player to the the 5-time IPL champions. In fact, the GT management reportedly has no intention of giving Sundar away. Washington Sundar IPL 2025 Stats Washington Sundar is a spin bowler, who debuted back in 2017. Gujarat Titans acquired him for Rs 3.2 crore ahead of IPL 2025, and he got to represent the franchise in six matches. Here's a look at his stats from the season: Matches: 6 Balls Bowled: 65 Wickets: 2 Economy: 10.25 This was far from Sundar's best potential with the ball. He had picked 8 wickets in his debut season, and then again in 2020.  With the bat though, the all-rounder scored more than he ever has in the IPL: Runs: 133 (49 highest score) Strike Rate: 166.25 Average: 26.60 Recently, Washington Sundar played a key role in India's victory over Australia in Hobart, chasing 187. He scored 49 off 23 deliveries, hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes in the process. Even during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series in England, earlier his Summer, Sundar proved to be one of India's most important players, particularly in the final Test, as his innings with the bat gave them enough breathing to room to clinch a narrow victory. With the potential he has, it woudn't really be surprising for any IPL franchise to show interest in the player, as he can be a valuable asset on any day.  Check Out: IPL 2026 Twist: KL Rahul To Stay With DC As KKR Trade Falls Through?

Black Spots On Onions: Expert Explains Why You Should Never Ignore This Common Kitchen Warning

You grab an onion from your kitchen basket, only to notice a few dark patches near its skin. Most people simply peel them off and continue cooking, but that harmless looking black spot might be more dangerous than you think. According to Kanika Narang, Deputy Manager and HOD- Dietetics Department, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, Delhi, these black markings are not just dirt or discolouration. They're sign of a fungal infection that can impact your health in ways you might not realise. ALSO READ: Delhi AQI: Doctor-Recommended Ways To Protect Your Eyes From Air Pollution And Smog What Causes Black Spots On Onions? “Black spots on onions are typically due to a fungal infection, and most often by Aspergillus niger, also known as ‘black mold.’” explains Narang. This fungus thrives in hot and damp environments, particularly when onions are stored poorly or have damaged skins. The infection often begins near the neck, roots, or between layers, appearing as black, powdery patches. While it may look harmless on the surface, Narang warns that these spores can easily spread inside the onion. “The fungus grows well in hot and damp environments, especially when the onions are stored in poor conditions or have outer skins that are damaged.” That black dust isn’t something you can simply brush off. It’s a sign your onion has already started to decay from within. Can You Eat Onions With Black Moulds? Most people believe that scraping off the dark layer makes the onion safe to eat. But according to Kanika Narang, this belief is only partly true. She explains, “While pulling off the obviously moldy outer layers might eliminate surface spores, mold contamination tends to penetrate deeper into the onion by microscopic filaments. Peeling off the top layer doesn’t necessarily ensure safety. The best policy is to throw away the whole onion if you see black mold, an off smell, or softening, indicating internal spoilage.” Even a small contaminated section can expose you to harmful mycotoxins, compounds produced by the fungus. “Fungal-infested onions carry potential health hazards, particularly if the fungus has spread below the surface. Aspergillus niger is mycotoxin-producing and can cause allergic responses, respiratory distress, or gastrointestinal upset in susceptible individuals.” What To Do If You've Eaten A Contaminated Onion If you’ve already cooked with an onion that looked slightly off and are now feeling uneasy, don’t ignore the signs. “If an individual has symptoms like nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or allergic symptoms following the consumption of an onion infested with fungus, they need to remain hydrated and should approach a doctor without delay," says Kanika Narang. She further advises, “A physician might prescribe medication to suppress symptoms and, depending upon the requirement, conduct tests to eliminate foodborne illnesses or allergic reactions. Immunosuppressed individuals or those with pre-existing respiratory illnesses must be extra careful and must not self-medicate.” A single spoiled onion may not always cause visible illness, but consuming it repeatedly or ignoring symptoms can trigger serious health complications. Next time you spot a black patch on your onion, don’t risk it. That tiny discolouration could mean your onion has become a breeding ground for fungus, and it’s better to waste one vegetable than compromise your health. As Narang reminds, “The best policy is to throw away the whole onion if you see black mold.” [Disclaimer: The information provided in the article is shared by experts and is intended for general informational purposes only. IPL 2026 Twist: KL Rahul To Stay With DC As KKR Trade Falls Through?

Rumors about Delhi Capitals (DC) looking to trade Indian wicket keeper-batsman KL Rahul to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ahead of IPL 2026 had surfaced of late.  However, a recent report from Cricbuzz suggests that this alleged deal may now have fallen through, as the three-time IPL champions are unwilling to part ways with any of their primary assets, such as Varun Chakaravarthy or Rinku Singh, in exchange for the Delhi player. The report also quoted an anonymous source from DC stating that they would be unwilling to release any of their marquee players: "Why would we release our marquee player?" The Captails acquired KL Rahul during IPL 2025 auctions for Rs 14 crore, and he was one of their best players that season. Rahul is also a key figure in the national team, which makes him a valuable asset. KL Rahul IPL 2025 Stats Here's how KL Rahul's first year at the Delhi Captails went: Matches: 13 Runs: 539 Fifties: 3 Hundreds: 1 Strike Rate: 149.72 Average: 53.90 There have also been rumors about DC looking to bring in Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals (RR) by trading South Africa's Tristan Stubbs. However, if KL Rahul is to stay in the capital's franchise, then another wicket keeper-batsman being brought in for the next season seems a little unlikely. IPL 2026 Mini Auction: What Do We Know? The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet announced a set date for the IPL 2026 mini auction. That said, a report by Cricbuzz suggested that it could be held between December 13 and 15, 2025. The venue has also not been revealed at the time of this writing. The last two auctions were, notably, held outside of India. What we do know at the moment is that the deadline for all IPL franchises to announce their player retentions for the next season is November 15. VinFast Enters India’s Top 8 EV Makers, Outselling Tesla In October

After opening new dealerships and strengthening its presence across India, VinFast has improved its sales to 131 units in October, surpassing Tesla, which managed to sell only 40 units. The company also outperformed several other EV makers, securing a position among the top eight players in the Indian electric vehicle market. VinFast currently operates 24 showrooms across major Indian cities including Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Surat, Pune, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Nagpur, Agra, Ludhiana, Jaipur, Kochi, Bhubaneswar, Baroda, and Rajkot. The company has plans to open around 35 dealerships in total as part of its rapid expansion strategy. Aggressive Pricing Gives VinFast an Edge The carmaker has launched two new models, the VF6 and VF7, in India. Both are born-electric EVs, offered at competitive prices to attract a broader segment of buyers. VinFast and Tesla have entered the Indian market with distinct strategies. While VinFast has established local operations and a growing dealership network, Tesla has opted to bring its vehicles through the import route. Although Tesla’s cars have been well received for their performance and technology, the imported units attract heavy duties, significantly increasing their prices. Consequently, the Tesla Model Y is more expensive than its locally assembled competitors in India. In contrast, VinFast’s aggressive and locally focused pricing has given it a competitive advantage and helped it gain momentum in the expanding EV market. EV Market in India Set for Growth While electric vehicles currently represent only a small portion of total car sales in India, the segment is witnessing steady growth. The entry of new players, fresh product launches, and competitive pricing are expected to accelerate market expansion and attract more buyers. Both VinFast and Tesla plan to introduce additional models in the coming months. VinFast, in particular, has several new vehicles lined up for the Indian market, including some that were showcased at the previous Auto Expo.

Breaking Myths About Eye Care: What You Really Need To Know

(By Dr. Mubashir Parkar) When it comes to eye care, myths and misconceptions often spread faster than facts. Many people rely on advice from friends or social media rather than consulting an eye specialist, which can sometimes do more harm than good. Let’s clear up some of the most common myths about eye care and learn what’s actually true. ALSO READ: Why Meditation Should Begin In Childhood: Building Calm Minds From A Young Age Wearing Glasses Weakens Your Eyesight This is one of the oldest and most widespread myths. In reality, glasses do not make your eyes weaker or stronger. They simply help you see clearly by correcting the refractive error. Your prescription may change over time due to age or other eye conditions, not because you wear glasses regularly. Watching TV Or Using Mobile Phones In The Dark Damages Your Eyes While it’s true that using digital devices in dim light can cause eye strain, dryness, and fatigue, it doesn’t cause permanent eye damage. Following the 20-20-20rule, every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds, helps reduce digital eye strain. Only Older People Get Eye Diseases Eye problems can affect anyone, including children and young adults. Conditions like myopia (nearsightedness), dry eye, or computer vision syndrome are increasingly common among younger people. Regular eye check-ups are essential at every age to detect issues early. Eating Carrots Is Enough For Good Vision Carrots are rich in vitamin A, which supports eye health, butthey’re not a magic food for perfect eyesight. A balanced diet with green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, fish rich in omega-3, and nuts provides the complete nutrition your eyes need. You Don’t Need An Eye Exam Unless You Have A Problem Some eye diseases, like glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy, develop silently without noticeable symptoms in the early stages. Regular comprehensive eye exams can detect such conditions early and prevent vision loss. Healthy eyes need care, protection, and regular check-ups. Avoid believing in myths or home remedies. Always consult an eye specialist for accurate guidance.  Remember, protecting your vision today ensures a lifetime of clear and healthy sight.
