8th Pay Commission: Click At Your Own Risk! Fake Salary Hike Links Bait Govt Employees

A new cyber scam targeting central government employees is circulating, with fraudsters promising early access to salary revisions under the upcoming 8th Pay Commission, The Economic Times reported. Authorities have issued a public warning after multiple employees flagged suspicious WhatsApp messages linked to the pay revision exercise. Malicious APK Disguised As Salary Calculator According to an alert shared on X, scammers are sending WhatsApp messages claiming to offer an estimated revised salary calculation under the 8th Pay Commission. Recipients are prompted to click on a link and download an APK file. While the file appears to be a salary calculator, it is, in fact, malicious software. Once installed, the APK grants fraudsters remote access to the user’s mobile device, enabling them to extract sensitive data and carry out unauthorised bank transactions. Why The Scam Is Effective The 8th Pay Commission impacts more than one crore central government employees and pensioners, influencing salaries, pensions and overall financial security. Fraudsters are exploiting the heightened interest around the revision to lower vigilance. Officials caution that victims may not immediately realise their devices have been compromised. By the time suspicious activity is detected, funds may already have been withdrawn from linked accounts. Safety Advisory Issued Authorities have urged employees to exercise caution. They emphasised that the government does not distribute APK files through WhatsApp or other messaging platforms. Employees have been advised not to download applications or files from unknown or unverified sources and to refrain from clicking on suspicious links, even if messages appear official. For updates related to salary and pensions, only official government websites should be accessed. Official Website Launched The government has launched the official website of the 8th Pay Commission to disseminate accurate information and seek feedback. The commission has invited suggestions on pay, allowances and service conditions from ministries, departments, state governments, employees, pensioners, researchers and other stakeholders. Officials reiterated that accessing the official website is the safest way to remain informed and avoid online fraud. Exercise Caution Online Cyber experts note that scams are increasingly sophisticated and tailored. Messages promising financial gains or urgent updates are often designed to prompt immediate action. Employees are advised to pause and verify before clicking unknown links, as a brief moment of caution could prevent significant financial loss.

'No Reason To Believe...': Russian Foreign Ministry Rejects Trump's Claim On India's Oil Purchase

Moscow, Feb 18 (PTI) Russia's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday said it has "no reason" to believe that India has changed its position on buying Russian oil, which it said is beneficial for both countries and maintains stability in the global hydrocarbons market. The remarks came in the backdrop of Washington's claim that New Delhi has agreed to stop importing Russian crude oil. “We have no reason to believe that India has changed its position on buying Russian hydrocarbons. India’s purchase of Russian hydrocarbons benefits both countries and helps maintain stability in the international energy market,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said in her weekly briefing. “There is nothing new in the claims of US President Donald Trump, as well as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who have grabbed the right to dictate to independent nations,” Zakharova said. Following a recent phone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Donald Trump, both sides announced a reduction of the US tariffs on Indian goods to 18 per cent from 50 per cent. The reduction included the removal of a 25 per cent tariff that Trump had slapped on India in August last year for New Delhi's purchase of Russian oil. Last week, Rubio said that India has committed to stop buying Russian oil, days after New Delhi reiterated that “national interests” will be the “guiding factor” for India’s energy procurement. While announcing the trade deal with New Delhi early in February, Trump had also claimed India had agreed to not procure crude oil from Russia. India has not yet confirmed or denied Washington's claim that it has committed to stopping the procurement of Russian crude oil. Earlier too, Russia had accused the US of attempting to prevent India and other countries from buying Russian oil, saying Washington was using a wide range of “coercive” measures, including tariffs, sanctions and direct prohibitions. In her strongly worded statement, Zakharova also criticised the European allies of the Ukrainian regime, saying that they do not want a peace solution.  (Disclaimer: This report has been published as part of the auto-generated syndicate wire feed. Macron Posts 'Heart Emoji' Image With PM Modi Before Delhi Summit

A day before attending the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi, French President Emmanuel Macron shared an AI-generated image of himself with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, signalling confidence in the future of India-France cooperation in artificial intelligence and technological innovation. Posting the image on X, Macron wrote, "When friends connect, innovation follows. Ready for The AI Impact Summit!" He added the caption, "Yes this is AI", highlighting both the summit’s theme and the technological collaboration between the two countries. In the AI-generated image, Prime Minister Modi is seen standing to Macron’s right, with both leaders raising their hands to form a heart symbol with their palms, a gesture often associated with appreciation during sporting events. Two white mugs bearing the French and Indian national flags are placed on the table in front of them, symbolising bilateral ties. The gesture reflected optimism about what Macron suggested could mark a transformative phase in AI cooperation between the two nations. Remarks At India-France Innovation Forum Speaking at the India-France Innovation Forum on Tuesday, Macron said, "The question is no longer whether India innovates. The question is, who will innovate with India? And France is the unique clear answer. We are here, we want to be here with you, and we are not leaving. Jai Ho! As we say in a famous movie. So long live the Indo-French relationship. Thank you very much." Macron’s visit includes participation in the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi and a bilateral summit in Mumbai. This marks his fourth official visit to India. New Collaborative Institutions Announced During earlier engagements, India and France announced plans to establish several collaborative institutions: the Indo-French Centre for AI in Health, the Indo-French Centre for Digital Science and Technology, and a National Centre of Excellence for Skilling in Aeronautics. Prime Minister Modi described these initiatives as "future-building platforms" aimed at expanding cooperation in advanced and emerging sectors. Broader Strategic And Cultural Engagement The two leaders also reviewed major joint initiatives launched in recent years, including the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and the International Solar Alliance, reflecting shared priorities in connectivity and climate action. Cultural collaboration also featured in the discussions, with India set to open the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in France and to work jointly on projects such as the National Maritime Heritage Complex at Lothal. Macron’s AI-themed post and the summit announcements underscored a deepening India-France partnership centred on technology, innovation, defence and shared global ambitions.

Maruti Suzuki eVitara Undercuts Rivals With Competitive Pricing, Supply Constraints Likely

After revealing only the BAAS (Battery as a Subscription) pricing for the entry-level variants a day earlier, Maruti Suzuki has now announced the full, outright purchase prices of the Maruti Suzuki eVitara. The electric SUV starts at Rs 15.99 lakh for the Delta variant with the 49kWh battery pack, a figure that undercuts several rivals in the segment. The Zeta variant, equipped with the larger 61kWh battery pack, is priced at Rs 17.49 lakh. At the top of the range sits the Alpha trim, also powered by the 61kWh battery, at Rs 19.79 lakh. Buyers opting for the dual-tone version will need to pay an additional Rs 22,000. The final pricing is notably lower than previously leaked figures, which have now proven inaccurate. With this aggressive positioning, Maruti Suzuki appears keen to strengthen its foothold in the growing electric SUV space. BAAS vs Outright Purchase The eVitara is available under both an outright purchase model and a Battery as a Subscription (BAAS) scheme. Under the BAAS plan, the Delta 49kWh variant starts at Rs 10.99 lakh, with a battery usage charge of Rs 3.99 per kilometre. The Zeta 61kWh is priced at Rs 11.99 lakh under BAAS, along with Rs 4.39 per kilometre. Meanwhile, the Alpha 61kWh comes in at Rs 14.29 lakh plus Rs 4.39 per kilometre. Maruti Suzuki’s dual pricing strategy mirrors similar arrangements seen in the market. However, in the case of the Windsor, which offered a comparable subscription model, BAAS sales reportedly remained in the minority. Supply Constraints Expected The carmaker has cautioned that supply constraints may arise in the initial months due to export commitments and strong demand. According to the company, production and availability are expected to stabilise after a few months. With competitive pricing, multiple battery options and flexible ownership models, the eVitara now enters the market with a clear intent: to make electric mobility more accessible while taking on established players in the segment.

Share of Russian crude in India's oil imports falls to lowest since November 2022; Middle East supplies rise

India has significantly reduced its reliance on Russian crude oil, with January imports hitting their lowest point since late 2022. This shift sees Middle Eastern suppliers, particularly Saudi Arabia, regaining prominence as India diversifies its energy sources. The move aligns with international pressures and India's commitment to strategic autonomy.
