Viral Video Of Obscene Dance During Kanwar Yatra Sparks Outrage

The sacred Kanwar Yatra is in the news for all the wrong reasons: sometimes for non-payment of food bills, at others for going on rampages and demolishing vehicles. A lot of times, Kanwar Yatra has been the focus of communal debates, too. However, the Kanwar Yatra controversies reached a new low this time due to an alleged vulgar video associated with the event.

A video clip purportedly shot during a Kanwar Yatra is making the rounds on social media, and it's stirring serious backlash. The footage shows a large crowd gathered on a bridge, watching an obscene dance performance in the middle of what is supposed to be a religious procession.

    What Was On The Video?

The video going viral on social media shows a crowd of Kanwariyas on a bridge, with two women dancing on a
tractor. The dancers are dancing to the loud music and Kanwariyas and other people passing can be seen shooting videos of them.

The video is believed to be from Uttar Pradesh. The Kanwariyas were going from Ayodhya to Basti. Many users have called the act disrespectful and inappropriate, especially given the spiritual nature of the Kanwar Yatra.

    Netizens Slam 'Vulgarity'

The video, which is being widely circulated on the internet, has angered many. Demanding action against all those responsible for the "vulgarity", people said Hinduism should not be reduced to such cheap antics.

    Hindu Groups Demand Action

Several Hindu organisations have condemned the video, accusing the participants of mocking a sacred tradition. They slammed the inclusion of 'vulgar entertainment' in an event meant to honour Lord Shiv, saying it undermined the sanctity of the pilgrimage.

Some groups have also urged the local administration to investigate the incident and take strict action against those involved.
