Three Reasons Why Sanju Samson Might Exit From Rajasthan Royals Before IPL 2026

Speculation around Sanju Samson’s future with Rajasthan Royals has been making headlines ever since the conclusion of IPL 2025. The long-time RR captain is reportedly considering parting ways with the franchise ahead of the next season.

While nothing is official yet, several sources suggest that Samson might be on the radar of two major IPL teams — Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). But what’s pushing this potential shift?

Here are the three major reasons fueling talk of a possible exit:

    1. Loss of Opening Slot

One of the biggest changes in RR’s batting lineup last season was the emergence of Vaibhav Suryavanshi as a dependable opener.

With Suryavanshi cementing his place at the top, Samson was pushed down to No. 3 in the batting order. For someone who regularly opens for Team India, this reshuffling may have been unsettling. Reports say Samson is eager to open the innings consistently — a role he may not get at RR anymore.

    2. Tension Over Captaincy Decisions

In IPL 2025, Samson missed several games due to injury. During his absence, the team management handed over the leadership to young Riyan Parag.

Reports suggest this decision didn’t sit well with Samson, especially since other contenders like Yashasvi Jaiswal were also being considered for the leadership role. The growing competition for captaincy within the RR camp has reportedly left Samson frustrated.

    3. Attractive Offers from CSK and KKR

After spending years with Rajasthan Royals, Samson may now be looking to explore fresh challenges. According to reports, CSK is eyeing him as a potential long-term successor to MS Dhoni.

On the other hand, KKR is said to be offering Samson a leadership role — a move that could give him both responsibility and the freedom to shape a team around him.

With multiple offers on the table and some internal friction at Rajasthan Royals, the ball now lies in Samson’s court. IPL 2026 might just witness one of the biggest player moves in recent years.
