Maruti Suzuki Dzire Grabs 5-Star Safety Gold: First Indian Sedan To Ace Bharat NCAP Crash Test

The new Maruti Suzuki Dzire has become the country’s first sedan to receive a 5-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP). The certification was officially presented by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The new Baleno, also tested under the Bharat NCAP regime, secured an impressive 4-star rating. Both vehicles are built on Suzuki’s fifth-generation HEARTECT platform and come equipped with advanced safety features, including six airbags, Electronic Stability Program+ (ESP®), ABS with EBD, and 360-degree HD cameras.

Government Applauds Maruti Suzuki’s Safety Push

Gadkari lauded the company’s safety initiatives and said, “It gives me immense pride to see Made-in-India high volume mainstream cars achieve exemplary safety ratings under the Bharat New Car Assessment Program. This program incorporates rigorous and comprehensive testing and evaluation standards that are comparable with global safety protocols. It is aimed at raising safety awareness among customers in the country. I congratulate Maruti Suzuki on an impressive debut in Bharat NCAP, securing a 5-star safety rating for the All-New Dzire.”

He further noted, “Six airbags from an entry hatchback to a premium SUV, is a significant stride by Maruti Suzuki towards vehicle safety. I am sure this will encourage other manufacturers to make 6 airbags a standard feature across all variants of their models.”

6 Airbags To Be Standard Across All Models By Year-End

Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s Managing Director & CEO, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, highlighted the company’s commitment to enhancing passenger safety. “It is heartening to see Hon’ble Minister’s passionate and concerted efforts towards road safety. Bharat NCAP brings to India the stringent vehicle testing protocols that will help customers take informed decisions,” he said.

Takeuchi added that all models from Maruti Suzuki will be equipped with six airbags as standard by the end of the year. Currently, 10 of the company’s models — including Alto K10, Celerio, Swift, WagonR, Dzire, Eeco, Brezza, Grand Vitara, Jimny, and Invicto — already feature six airbags across all variants.

Leading The Pack On Electronic Stability Features

In addition to its airbag initiative, Maruti Suzuki has equipped all 18 of its models with Electronic Stability Program+ (ESP®), setting a new industry benchmark. This move comes well ahead of mandatory safety regulations and marks the company’s proactive stance on improving driver and passenger protection.

With this announcement and certification, Maruti Suzuki has not only raised the bar for Indian sedans but also reinforced its leadership in mainstream vehicle safety, encouraging other automakers to follow suit in making Indian roads safer for all.
