Israel Strikes Gaza Hours After Hamas's Nod To Hostage Release, Trump's Calls To End Bombing; 6 Killed

Six people were killed after Israel struck Gaza hours after Hamas' nod to release hostage amid Trump's calls to end bombing. Hamas on Saturday announced its willingness to enter negotiations to resolve all aspects of the Gaza peace agreement proposed earlier this week by US President Donald Trump. The announcement comes amid continued Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip, despite sustained U.S.-led diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions. Local officials, cited by Reuters, reported that six people were killed in the latest round of attacks.

    Israel Strikes Gaza Again

Despite these diplomatic overtures, violence escalated overnight. Civil defence spokesperson Mahmoud Basal described the situation as “very violent,” noting that the Israeli army carried out dozens of airstrikes and artillery attacks across Gaza City and other areas, even as President Trump urged a halt to the bombing, as per reports. Basal reported that 20 homes were destroyed.

Hospitals across the Strip treated numerous casualties. Gaza City’s Baptist Hospital received victims from a strike in the Tuffah neighbourhood, including four fatalities and several injuries. In Khan Younis, Nasser Hospital confirmed that two children were killed and eight others wounded in a drone strike targeting a tent sheltering displaced families, as reported by AFP.

    What Is Gaza Peace Proposal?

The Gaza peace proposal, unveiled earlier this week by President Trump with backing from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, outlines a framework for a ceasefire, the release of hostages within 72 hours, the disarmament of Hamas, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from the region, as per Aljazeera. On Friday, Hamas indicated its willingness to release captives under the terms of the plan but called for negotiations on certain provisions, insisting on participation in decisions regarding Gaza’s future governance.
